Tips for Cooking Turkey Breast
Turkey breast is versatile and makes it easy to enjoy this holiday favorite year-round. The advantage to roasting a turkey breast is that it's easier to maintain moist and juicy white meat, so you don't have to wait for the legs to be cooked through as you would with a whole bird. A turkey breast in addition to your whole holiday bird is a great way to have extra white meat if that's what your family prefers. Not just for special occasions, whole turkey breasts are also delicious barbecued or smoked, or poached and shredded then added to soups, salads, or sandwiches.
Ordering Your Thanksgiving Turkey
Fresh organic turkey breast is available seasonally for pre-order during the holidays in November and December. Frozen organic turkey breast may be available during other times of the year.
We highly recommend you plan ahead and pre-order your holiday bird as early as possible, as we often sell out. Check our Holiday Delivery Calendar for the best dates to order.
Cooking Your D'Artagnan Turkey
Keep in mind that depending on several factors, including the size of bird, oven calibration, type of cookware used, recipe variations, and method of cooking, time and temperature will vary. We recommend the use of a meat thermometer, instant-read or digital when gauging doneness.
What Size Turkey Breast Do You Need?
If you prefer to have no leftovers, we recommend that you estimate 1-1.25 pounds per person to determine the size of turkey breast you will need. (For example, 8-10 pounds will yield 6-8 servings). Or, if leftovers are why you cook a turkey in the first place, then plan on at least 1.5 pounds per person.
The farms that raise turkeys for D'Artagnan are scrutinized for their methods, treatment of animals and handling standards. Our USDA-certified organic turkeys are humanely raised on small family farms in the Midwest, with full access to the outdoors where they get plenty of exercise, unlike factory-farmed birds. They are not pushed to grow too quickly; instead, they develop at a slower pace, growing the old-fashioned way, with respect for the natural process.
The free-range turkeys are fed an all-vegetarian diet consisting of 100% organic, non-GMO grains (corn and soy) and pure spring water, with no protein supplements, added poultry or fish by-products, pesticides or herbicides. Additionally, no antibiotics, growth hormones or arsenicals are ever administered and the birds benefit from an environment that never uses artificial light. These turkeys are beyond “natural,” a term without any regulation; they are USDA-certified organic, which means they follow the strictest of guidelines.
